A historic building shaped by creative work
The Ellis Building has taken many forms over more than a century on Vancouver’s Eastside. Originally built as a rooming house for railroad workers, it later became a furniture store before spending decades as a site for custom metal work serving the Strathcona community. Today, the building is home to artist studios, the Velvet Pony bar, and an intimate event space, continuing its long history as a place shaped by the people who use it. Carefully renovated to preserve its original character, the Ellis Building retains exposed wood and brick that reflect its past while supporting contemporary creative use.
